BUA 602 Term Project Guidelines
The following are guidelines for the research paper that should be handed in on the of final exam.
The title should be quite descriptive of the paper, and the more descriptive the better. However, balance the benefits of
description with the burdens of length. The title should appear on a cover sheet and at the top of page 1.
If the subject matter or importance of the research is not widely known, then make a statement describing the
research subject. State broad the goals of the research. Is the purpose or the research explanation or prediction?
Why is this research relevant? Who would be interested in the conclusions of the research?
II. Previous Research
Cite previous research. How is this research different from previous research.
For this project, just say “There has been a lot of previous research, but none right on point with this
State whether the research is time series or cross-section, how many observations will be used, and what techniques
will be used. Generally, this will be Graphical Techniques (histograms, time series plots, scatterplots), Analytical
Methods (descriptive statistics for scalable variables, frequency tables for discrete or categorical variables,
correlation, and regression). State what statistical program will be used, e.g. Excel, SPSS, R.
State the functional specification, population regression equation and sample regression equation.

Eqn. 1 Price = f(SqFtHome, SFLot, Age)
Eqn. 2 Price = + sfhSFH + sfl*SFL + age*Age
Eqn. 3 Price = a + bsfhSFH + bsfl*SFL + bage*Age
State the logic connecting the dependent variable with the independent variables?
a. No: Include Fig. 1 Histogram of all variables. Is the histogram symmetric, skewed or irregular.
b. If time series, include sequence chart of each variable.
c. Include Scatterplots of the Dependent Variable with each Independent Variable, each labeled with a number
and a title, and with the correlation coefficient in the subtitle. Indicate whether the relationships are positive or
negative, strong or weak, linear or non-linear, any outliers and if heteroscedastic. Do not include scatterplots
of the dependent variable with dummy variables.
d. Include Table 1, a table of descriptive statistics for all non-categorical variables.
Table 1 Descriptive Statistics
n Mean Median StdDev Skewness Kurtosis
State anything noteworthy about the parameters from Table 1.
e. Include Table 2 Correlation Matrix with a discussion of any noteworthy correlations
