Dear Dr. Samora:

I am pleased to offer this enclosed report on Global Warming and Possible Engineering Solutions as commissioned by you. The report entails my recommendations on the possible solutions for reducing the harmful effects brought by global warming.

I hereby recommend that engineering students and educators understand the effects of global warming and its causes, such as electricity generation, transportation, nuclear waste, industrial waste, among other existing technologies. Also, they need to come into reality with the solutions towards minimizing the effects of global warming using environmentally friendly power. The environmentally friendly power sources incorporate sun oriented force frameworks, wind power frameworks, geothermal energy, and biomass energy. According to the report, the solutions are cost-effective and sustainable.

I am greatly honored to have prepared this report for you. I remain hopeful that the report will help address the severe impacts brought by global warming. In case of any concern about the recommendations kindly contact me.

Sincerely yours,

Ahmed Shehadeh

Global Warming and Possible Engineering Solutions Report Outline

  1. Introduction

  • Global warming is defined as the gradual heating of the atmosphere, earth’s surface and oceans instigated by human actions.
  • Greenhouse gases of ozone, carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane trap and nitrous oxide part of solar radiation going to the ground’s atmosphere.
  • Global warming is an environmental issue of much importance in the present day.
  • The issue is more than a gradual average temperature increase.
  • Global warming is a result of the progression of humans and its impacts like biodiversity and rise in sea levels.

Thesis statement: The paper’s primary objective will be to explore the causes and impacts of global warming on the environment that result from emissions of excess greenhouse gases and solutions using renewable energy.

  1. Body

Causes of global warming.

  • Global warming being a environment change aspect, it’s caused by greenhouse gases’ concentration in the atmosphere.
  • Such greenhouse gas emissions are majorly from human activities such as deforestation, burning fossil fuels, and farming (Rossati, 2017).
  • When fossil fuels like gas, oil and coal are burnt to make power or power vehicle engine, carbon dioxide contamination is unconfined into the troposphere.
  • Deforestation and tree clearing eliminates an essential component in regulating the climate. Trees and other type plants play an vivacious role of absorbing carbon dioxide gas and, therefore, necessary in keeping the level of global warming to 1.50C (Masson-Delmotte et al., 2018)
  • Some fertilizers used in farming release nitrous oxide, a common greenhouse gas. Also, livestock animals such as cattle and sheep produce methane, and when grazed at a large scale, they are likely to contribute to global warming.
  • Human progression has directly resulted in climate change. The increase in population has created the need for more food, more materials, and mass production to sustain many people. That is the source of the problem of global warming.

Effects of Global Warming

  • The rising of sea levels is among global warming’s primary effects. Such an effect has brought dire consequences such as erosion, aquifers contamination, loss of habitat for plants and animals flooding.
  • Global warming has also resulted in the loss of biodiversity. Many species have not been able to keep up with the high rate of environmental change resulting in increased extinction rates.
  • Ocean acidification has also been witnessed due to global warming serving as a threat to aquatic life. The acidification causes changes in the biogeochemical and chemical speciation cycles of many compounds and elements. The acidic water is not suitable for several animals.
  • Climate change has affected people in certain aspects such as health, water use, food, and costs.

Solutions to Global Warming

  • At the onset of the industrial revolution, people never realized the dangers they caused to the environment. Now people have begun taking the necessary actions to prevent global warming.
  • There is much concern about habitat conservation, protecting the endangered species, and advancing clean and renewable energy. As an HSE engineer, I would recommend much on the use of renewable sources of energy to minimize the global warming effects.
  • The environmentally friendly power. The environmentally friendly power sources incorporate sun oriented force frameworks, wind power frameworks.
  1. Conclusion

  • The study of global warming and its effects and the engineering solutions that involve using renewable energy is a crucial aspect in the engineering field.
  • Global warming as a subject matter is multidisciplinary and directly linked to engineering study.
  • Engineering students and educators should understand the effects of global warming and its causes, such as electricity generation, transportation, nuclear waste, industrial waste, among other existing technologies.
  • Creation of carbon-free surroundings that is cost-effective and sustainable assist to reduce global warming.
