Short Paper 2 and Final Paper
For the final Seminar Paper of the semester, you have some choice on what you discuss. You can focus on medieval manifestations of gender throughout a handful of texts, how gender is discussed in one text or by one author, or a “thematic” examination of gender. Historical and cultural analyses are also permissible, provided you make sure the literature is still the main focus. You need to have outside support from at least 3-4 scholarly articles or secondary sources for Short Paper 2 and then an additional 2-3 for the Final Paper (for a total of 5-7 secondary sources total).
While the choice is yours, you need to have an explicit thesis and a clear organized argument. Your thesis needs to state a claim (not a fact!) that can be argued with support from primary and secondary texts. Additionally, your thesis should be narrow enough that you have an argument that provides a clear, critical perspective but broad enough that you have an argument to develop. Quotes need to be analyzed and connected back to your thesis.
There are two parts to this paper: Short Paper Two, which is a conference length (6-8 pages) version of your final paper and your Final Paper, which is an extrapolation of that paper (10-12 pages). Both versions should be double-spaced and follow the Standards of Written Work in the syllabus. You need a Works Cited page in MLA 8 Format.
